Maintaining a swimming pool

Posted: Jan 25, 2010 | Category: Home & Garden News

With a reasonable warm weather start of this year, I thought I will give you some tips on how to maintain your swimming pools. I am just kidding about the warm weather by the way, although it is warmer here in the UK than Edmonton, Canada.

It never hurts to start early so those expected surprises cannot delay planned pool opening.

So while the swimming pool is closed for winter, here is what you can do, which will help make the spring opening quick and easy and hassle-free.

· Pump excessive water off the winter cover. Why? I don’t know, just do it, again just kidding – excessive water on the swimming pool covers can cause damage to the cover or cover can fall into the pool.

· Check pump room for any leakage.

· Do not pump off the water; just leave 2 to 3 inches of water on the cover to protect from wind damage.

· Do not move sheets of ice, this can do your pool liner some damage.

· Check swimming pool chemicals

· Ensure the pool water is still in pristine condition with no trace of algae.

· Open sand filters and check quality and level of the sand.

Before I finish just want to add something on caring for your pool in the winter:

Water tends to stay clear with very little help during the winter. I hardly ever see a pool turn green in the winter because algae does not appear, even if it does appear its build-up is extremely slow.

So to winterize the swimming pool, here is what you should do.

Add dose of chlorine one a week, oh and run the pump too. Vacuum once every 4 weeks under normal circumstances, this will keep your pool winterized.

Swimming pool maintenance can help prevent swimming pool problems and avoid water problems and enable you to enjoy your pool in the spring as soon as the warmer weather arrives.

Industrial Heater In The Home

Posted: Jan 22, 2010 | Category: Home Heating

Believe it or not something that can be very useful for the home at this time of year is the industrial heater. There are in fact several reasons why:

No Wood

There will be no money spent on wood keeping the fireplace going anymore, although I will say a fireplace can be a great thing to have indeed.

wood

Cheaper

There are many arguments that having one of these heaters in the home could actually prove cheaper than running your central heating. Whilst I am not too sure on if this is true or not I know for a fact that if you are primarily sat in one room you are going to see the benefits of the heater because you will not need to be heating the rest of the home.

Help The Elderly

If you are someone that is either taking care of an elderly person or has an elderly within the home then you will know that they tend to stick to one room in the day and just head back to their bed at night. Quite often they can be cold when no one else is and this is a great way to bring in the heater. They will really appreciate it too!

If an industrial heater is too big for the home then why not look into something like portable heaters.

Why You Need Flowers In The Home

Posted: Jan 08, 2010 | Category: Home & Garden Ideas

Flowers are very important in the home and they really help make a difference to the way people see it. But what real difference can a vase of flowers make to the household?

Mood

A nice, colourful bunch of flowers will really help boost the mood in the home as every time you walk into the room you will feel a sudden boost in your mood. This is not only because the eyes will pick up on the colour but quite often the flowers will release smells that the body recognises as good which then in turn also boosts the mood.

Make sure that you always throw the flowers out before they start to die because if you do not do this it will start to have the reverse effect on the mind and body and you do not want this to happen at all.

Moving House?

If you are planning on moving in the near future and are getting people into the home to view as possible buyers I would highly recommend getting as many flowers in the home as possible. Although people are not going to buy the house for the items within it they will notice the smells and pick up that you keep the house in order and this of course in turn makes the house look better for any possible buyer.

These are just a couple of reasons why you should think about getting flowers for the home.
