Choose the Right Pool Cover

Posted: Sep 13, 2008 | Category: Swimming Pools

There are a variety of pool covers available today. Which should you choose for winter protection?

I’ve talked before in this blog about using winter debris pool covers to keep your swimming pool water clean and protect your pool during the winter months. But exactly what should you look for when considering various pool covers?

Winterising pool covers tend to be made from a tough plastic like woven polyethylene. It is important to ensure that the material has been UV stabilised so that prolonged exposure to the suns rays don’t make the material brittle and susceptible to splitting. It’s also important to ensure that the cover extends well over the pool perimeter and can be firmly anchored in place in multiple locations around the edge as this will keep it in place when the winter winds begin to blow.

While a winter debris pool cover of this type will keep your pool water free from leaf and garden debris they are not usually strong enough to be walked on. If you have children or pets that might fall or walk onto the pool cover then you should consider using a pool safety cover.

Pool safety covers are made from tougher material that can actually take considerable load so if a child or animal inadvertently falls onto the cover while it is in place they will not sink into the pool and become entangled.

Protect Your Pool with an Effective Debris Cover

Posted: Aug 21, 2008 | Category: Swimming Pools

If you are a pool owner you will already be aware of the importance of keeping children and pets safely away from the water. A swimming pool safety cover is essential if you have small children or animals. But if you simply need to keep your pool clean during the autumn and winter months then you will need a debris cover.

When the Autumn starts and the leaves begin to fall removing leaf debris from your pool becomes almost a full time job. The weather may still be warm enough to swim but leaves and rubbish in your pool will not make it particularly inviting. A swimming pool debris cover will help to keep your swimming pool leaf-free.

A good swimming pool debris cover will cover the whole surface of your pool, and extend a little over the edge. It should be possible to fasten it securely to ensure that the fierce Autumn and winter winds don’t cause it to come adrift.

When next spring comes around you will thank yourself for having taken the trouble to cover your pool and keep it debris free during the winter months.
