Were You Ready for the Heatwave

The scorching UK heatwave, which peaked at 33 degrees Celsius, is officially over as the British Isles were drenched by heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The Met office were forced to issue flood warnings for parts of the West Midlands and South Yorkshire. They said that London and the South East should escape the worst of the weather, but this situation might change by Saturday.

Some pessimists are saying that this week of exceptionally hot weather will probably be all that the UK sees this year. But Met office forecasters have said that it is too early to tell and that another area of high pressure was currently building up and this could lead to even more record breaking temperatures.

As is usual when the sun comes out, Brits rush for the coast, forget to put on any sun protection and all too many end up in casualty. Swimming pool supply companies have reported record demand, especially for easily constructed above ground pools. One supplier told us:

People always leave it until the sun comes out. They don’t realise that they have saved up to 30% on the cost of their pool if they’d bought it in the off-season between January and March.

Some good advice if you ever want your own back garden swimming pool.
